Key Stage 2
Primary 5, 6 and 7
Every child in Key Stage 2 (years 5-7) has access to the full Northern Ireland Curriculum, at their individual level. Following teacher assessments, individual targets for each child are set, shared with parents through Idividual Education Plans (IEP's) and reviewed regularly.
Each child's social and emotional well being forms a major part of our curriculum and individual pupil's needs are met through a multi-agency approach and departmental collaboration. Services include Speech & Language therapy, nurture group, ASD social skills and counselling.
In Key Stage 2, we pride ourselves on our excellent home/school partnership. Class teachers and parents work together to share information and to ensure that the best learning experiences are provided for every child, enabling them to fulfil their full potential. Parents are invited to attend our 'Seasonal Celebrations' which include our Halloween Parade, Christmas concert and Family Fun Day. Advice support and training for parents is always at hand.
Our school day in KS2 begins in our 'Breakfast Club'. A nutritious breakfast is provided for all in a stimulating environment where pupils also have the opportunity to socially interact with their peers. Daily news is shared between pupils and staff and pupil success is celebrated through our weekly and monthly awards. Each class teacher operates their own positive behaviour reward system in their individual class.
Year 7 pupils participate in a structured transition programme in preparation for movement to secondary education. Our Year 7 residential is part of this programme. It will be taking place this year in *May (*date to be arranged) at Greenhill Youth Centre in Newcastle, County Down.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of our Year 7 highlights. Following preparation in school, we celebrate the Sacrament with our neighbouring school, Our Lady Queen of Peace.
Throughout the year, KS2 pupils participate in many sporting, musical and artistic events aimed at increasing confidence and developing self-esteem. Watch this space for events and photographs...
